In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, after completing the challenging Storm quest, you’ll get a bit of a breather with The Sword and the Quill. This quest takes Henry to Kuttenberg alongside Captain Zizka and Katherine, while Hans Capon remains in enemy hands. Your main objective is to locate the Dry Devil, following Zizka’s orders. While most of the quest revolves around dialogue, there’s an important interaction you won’t want to miss. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you complete it.
Follow Zizka and Katherine to Suchdol
Your first task is simple, follow Zizka and Katherine on horseback. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to flirt with Katherine. Once you reach Suchdol, you’ll be greeted by Lord Pisek, who will invite you to a feast.
- Eat as much as you like, then speak with Lord Pisek.
- After exhausting all dialogue options, he will ask you to take a bath before heading to bed.
- Visit the courtyard and speak to the bathmaid to clean up.

Before taking a bath, you can have a conversation with Katherine about her plans. If your Impression skill is at least 20, you’ll unlock the option to say, "May I join you?" While this won’t lead to romance, it will increase your reputation.
Once you’re done, head upstairs, sleep to save your progress, and prepare for the next phase of the quest.
Unique Interaction with Captain Frenzl
The next morning, the maid will wake you up. After getting dressed, you’ll have two options:
- Speak to Zizka
- Speak to Katherine (Recommended)

If you choose Katherine first, you’ll unlock a unique interaction with Captain Frenzl, who is engaged in a heated discussion with her near the fighting arena.
- Katherine will introduce you and insult the captain’s fortress.
- Frenzl will disagree and ask for your opinion.
You have two response options:
- "Your garrison is impressive" → Katherine will be displeased, and Frenzl will brag about his soldiers.
- "Your garrison is a joke" → Katherine will enjoy the moment, escalating tensions.
Frenzl will then challenge you to fight one of his men. If you mock his soldiers by selecting "Your men don’t stand a chance!", you’ll provoke him further.
Winning the Duel

- This is a non-lethal fight, where the first to bleed loses.
- Use Master Strike (learned from Tomcat) to counterattack effectively.
- If you win, Katherine will reward you with a decorated field crossbow.
- Losing isn’t a big deal, but winning earns you extra reputation points.
Meet Captain Zizka
After handling the duel, talk to Zizka near the fireplace. He will inform you of a summon from Margrave Jobst and instruct you to meet with him alone. Regardless of the dialogue choices you select, Zizka will refuse to accompany you.
- Head to the dining room, where a cutscene will play.
- Afterward, Jobst will ask about your time in Von Bergow’s dungeon.
- If you have high Persuasion, you can lie.
- Otherwise, select the first option to avoid suspicion.

Jobst will then offer Henry a place in his legation heading to Rattay. Reject the offer and exhaust all dialogue options.
At this point, Zizka will enter the hall and learn that Jobst refused to grant refuge to the Dry Devil. Since there’s no further assistance available here, Zizka will make a new plan:
- Katherine will travel to Kuttenberg to investigate Hans Capon’s whereabouts.
- Henry and Zizka will track down the Dry Devil.
This completes The Sword and the Quill quest, unlocking the next phase of the adventure.
