Defeat The Green-Capped Martialist is a challenging optional boss encountered in Black Myth: Wukong. This hidden character is revealed after you help a mysterious Treasure Hunter twice, only for him to unveil his true identity during a fateful encounter. The Green-Capped Martialist’s fighting style is unique, utilizing an ignitable chakram, which makes him a highly unpredictable and dangerous opponent. You’ll encounter him in Chapter 3 of the game, in the secret Melon Field area, providing a formidable challenge for even the most seasoned players.
This boss is known for his spinning chakram attacks, which cover wide areas and can set the battlefield on fire. The fight requires precise timing and well-executed dodges, making it one of the most intense battles in the chapter.
Location and How to Reach the Green-Capped Martialist
To find the Green-Capped Martialist, you must first save the Treasure Hunter in the "North Shore of the Bitter Lake" and again in the "Towers of Karma." After the second rescue, he will guide you to a hidden area known as the Melon Field. To reach this location, head to the "Brook of Bliss" Shrine, cross the frozen lake, and follow the cliffs down with careful platforming. Once you enter the Melon Field cave, the Green-Capped Martialist will reveal himself and the battle will begin.
Armor, Weapons, and Items for the Green-Capped Martialist Fight
For this battle, you’ll need to gear up with agility in mind. Equip armor that allows for maximum mobility, as you’ll need to dodge frequently to survive the Green-Capped Martialist’s wide-reaching attacks. A high-damage, fast weapon like a sword or spear is ideal, allowing you to strike quickly between his attack cycles.
- Weapons: A spear or dual blades, for quick, precise attacks.
- Armor: Light to medium armor to keep mobility high.
- Items: Bring healing items, as the Green-Capped Martialist's chakram can deal heavy damage. The Rock Solid spell is also useful for absorbing some of his more intense attacks.
How to Defeat the Green-Capped Martialist
Defeating the Green-Capped Martialist requires mastery of dodging and timing. His signature move is spinning his chakram across the battlefield, which can hit multiple times if you’re caught in its path.
- Dodging the Chakram: His chakram attacks cover large areas, so it’s essential to time your dodges well. When he throws the chakram, keep moving in one direction to avoid being trapped.
- Close Combat: After he throws the chakram, rush in for quick strikes while he’s momentarily defenseless. However, don’t overcommit; the Green-Capped Martialist can quickly counter with melee strikes.
- Using Spells: Use Rock Solid to absorb some of his harder-hitting attacks and Cloud Step to create distance and avoid his spinning chakram. Spells like Immobilize can also be helpful to keep him in place for a few moments, giving you a window to attack.
Rewards for Defeating the Green-Capped Martialist
Upon defeating the Green-Capped Martialist, you’ll receive the powerful Spell Binder spell, which eliminates the need for mana and temporarily boosts your attack strength. This spell is particularly useful in later boss fights, especially those where raw power is needed. Additionally, defeating him grants valuable experience points and loot that will enhance your character's abilities as you progress through the game.
Green-Capped Martialist’s Attack Patterns
- Chakram Spin: The Green-Capped Martialist throws his ignitable chakram, which spins around the battlefield, dealing damage over time. Dodging is critical when he uses this attack.
- Close-Range Combos: When in melee range, he performs fast, precise strikes. These combos are dangerous but predictable with careful observation.
- Fire Chakram: His chakram becomes engulfed in flames, increasing its damage output. The fire lingers on the ground, so you’ll need to avoid both the chakram and the burning trail it leaves.
Mastering his patterns and timing your attacks between his moves will help you emerge victorious and claim your rewards.
Fire Beam
Type of attack: The Green-Capped Martialist channels energy through his chakram, spinning it rapidly before unleashing a searing fire beam. Once the beam is discharged, it summons a ring of homing fire projectiles that chase the Destined One.
counter attack: To evade the fire beam, roll to either side just as the chakram lights up in bright orange. The following projectiles can be dodged by rolling directly into them as they close in.
Chakram Combo
Type of attack: In close combat, the Green-Capped Martialist delivers a swift combo with his chakram, slashing two or three times in quick succession.
counter attack: Roll away whenever you see him initiating these strikes to avoid getting caught in the combo.
Chakram Throw
Type of attack: The Green-Capped Martialist throws his chakram toward you, dealing continuous damage if it connects. He might follow up with another throw or attempt to kick if you're nearby.
counter attack: He often performs a rolling dive to retrieve the chakram, immediately swinging it before summoning a second chakram for a sweeping strike. To avoid damage, roll to the side as the chakram is thrown, and continue using dodge rolls to evade his follow-up attacks.
Chakram Orbit
Type of attack: This attack can be used on its own or as part of a combo. The combo starts with a strong upward slash, followed by a palm strike, and ends with another chakram swing before it's thrown. He catches it with his foot and throws it again.
counter attack: To evade, dodge through the initial swings. When the chakram enters its orbit, maintain distance from the boss to stay out of harm's way.
Chakram Wheel
Type of attack: When the Green-Capped Martialist's health drops to around 75%, he vanishes briefly before reappearing to strike, throwing a large chakram that rolls across the battlefield like a wheel. It bounces back and forth five times, leaving a burning trail.
At 50% health, the attack becomes more dangerous, with two chakram wheels rolling alternately. Afterward, he reappears to deliver two cross slashes with both chakrams.
counter attack: To avoid, sidestep the chakram wheels instead of rolling directly into them. The fire trail remains dangerous even if you dodge.
Double Chakram Spin
Type of attack: Summoning a second chakram, the Green-Capped Martialist leaps toward you in a spinning motion, slashing multiple times as he spins with both weapons.
counter attack: To avoid, roll to the left, as his spinning angle leans that way. Rolling right may cause you to get caught by the chakrams.
