Breaking the PSR (M98B) Unlock Conditions in Battlefield 6
The venerable M98B sniper rifle, colloquially known as the PSR, has made its return in Battlefield 6. While its inclusion is celebrated by veteran marksmen, the process to get PSR in Battlefield 6 is anything but straightforward. It requires players to complete a series of challenging, time-consuming assignments that appear poorly scaled to the current map rotation and game design.
The entire unlock process is staked behind two big stages. As a prerequisite to starting, you must reach Level 30—a reasonable starting point.
For those seeking to master precision and technique after unlocking the rifle, consult our comprehensive Battlefield 6 Sniping Guide here.

Phase One: The DMR Grind (Unlocks the SDK-99)
The first set of missions involves the Designated Marksman Rifles (DMRs) and is a prerequisite to unlocking the second-line sniper, the SDK-99, which becomes mandatory for the final PSR challenge.
Requirement 1: Accumulate 100 Headshot Kills with Any DMR.
Requirement 2: Inflict 5,000 Damage from More Than 75 Meters Using DMRs.
This is more a matter of persistent commitment than raw ability. Our advice here is simple:
Strategy: Be aggressive in the Breakthrough mode. Use the initial DMR that you get. This is challenging, but largely a matter of taking the time.
Estimated Time: Be prepared to spend two to four hours grinding directly to complete these early challenges.
Once this is done, the SDK-99 is unlocked as the required sniper platform for the M98B (PSR) challenge.
Phase Two: The Headshot Nightmares of Long-Range to Get PSR in Battlefield 6
The final section to get PSR in Battlefield 6 is infamous for its sheer difficulty and special requirements.
The Absurd Requirement: 150 Headshots at 200 Meters
The primary challenge asks you to acquire 150 Headshot Kills at a distance greater than 200 meters using a sniper rifle.
This requirement is inherently at odds with the current map pool and timing in Battlefield 6. All the standard maps in the game are under 200 meters in total length. Maps like Morag Valley and Seubak Seonsaeng lack substantial high points that even offer a good 200m+ line of sight, and relying on random placement of enemies is unrealistic.
The Only Reliable Solution: Operation Firestorm
In order to actually complete the 200m+ headshot challenge legally, you will need to play almost solely Operation Firestorm (Conquest). This map is the only map where sniping from one spawn area to the other spawn area every time will always guarantee targets above the 200-meter threshold.
Estimated Time (Legit Method): It will take a minimum of six or more hours continuous of gameplay on this one map in order to finish up the required headshots.
Gear and Settings Required for 200m+ Accuracy
200m+ accuracy requires specific gear that is unlocked by progression first:
The Scope: You will absolutely need an 8x scope or more. With the initial sniper, this will involve getting a Mastery Level of over 20, something which can take five hours even with Double XP tokens.
The Tool: Ready the Range Finder right away. The tool yields the accurate, crucial distance reading required for proper scope zeroing, significantly enhancing your likelihood of a successful headshot.
FOV Adjustments: If you tend to play with a high Field of View (FOV), your zoom level can be significantly reduced, and precise shots become hopeless. As a last resort, set your FOV temporarily to its lowest available setting, because this effectively increases the zoom of actual scopes, which helps in long-range accuracy.
The Community Workaround: Bypassing the Grind
Realizing the intimidating scope of this task, the community has devised a more direct path to acquire PSR in Battlefield 6 once Phase One (the DMR Headshots) is complete.
Locate Community Servers: Access the Community Tab, click on Browse Servers, and apply filters to search for "Sniper Unlock" or "200m Headshots."
Join and Prep: Join whichever of these dedicated servers is hosted normally for the sole purpose of grinding this requirement. Ping doesn't factor in here.
Do the Challenge: Acquire a static position and ensure your Range Finder is filled up. Zero your scope to the other players' range, align your crosshair perfectly on the target's head, and shoot.
By playing on these community servers, which are community-specific, the players are able to practically slice the needed grind from six-plus hours down to a matter of a few hours. This circumvents the poorly designed challenge but still requires the player to successfully land the technically demanding shots.
While we personally did the entire challenge square and fair on Operation Firestorm, we understand why players prefer the faster route. Dice could make this challenge realistically achievable across the entire map rotation by reducing the minimum range to 100 meters for each headshot.
