Big news for souls-like genre fans, Elden Ring has new content called Tarnished Edition which adds new weapons, new bosses, and also two new classes, and today I'm gonna put up a Full Guide to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition here so we can go over every angle and detail of this new update. You definitely have a lot of questions about this, like what's the playstyle of each class, or where can you get the weapons from, and the most important question, can we access these classes without restarting the game?

Don't rush, in this game guide I'm gonna cover all these questions, so follow along with me.

New classes added to the game

In Elden Ring Tarnished Edition we get two new classes, Heavy Knight and Idus Knight, each with their own unique traits.

    Heavy Knight class

1 Full Guide to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Heavy Knight Class

The first thing I'm covering in this Full Guide to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is the new Heavy Knight class, which is a specialist in heavy weapons and armor. You start this class with the following stats:

    • 14 Vigor
    • 8 Mind
    • 17 Endurance
    • 15 Strength
    • 11 Dexterity
    • 7 Intelligence
    • 7 Faith
    • 9 Arcane

As you can see, these stats are perfectly suited for using heavy weapons and armor. I suggest focusing your level ups on Vigor, Endurance, and Strength, and also put some points into Mind and Faith since you'll need them to use buffs like Golden Vow.

Good weapons and armor for the Heavy Knight class

The first weapon you use with this class is the Hefty Scimitar, a curved sword that needs Strength and Dexterity. It has spinning attacks with a wide hit range that can damage multiple enemies in one attack. I suggest using Colossal weapons with this class, your first option being the Great Sword from the North Coast area, and your second option being the Rusted Anchor in the Weeping Peninsula area.

    Idus Knight class

2 Full Guide to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Idus Knight class

The second class introduced in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is Idus Knight, which has the following stats:

    • 10 Vigor
    • 12 Mind
    • 11 Endurance
    • 13 Strength
    • 15 Dexterity
    • 8 Intelligence
    • 11 Faith

Looking at these stats, I'd say this is a pretty balanced class and you can have a really flexible start with it.

Suggested weapons for the Idus Knight class

The signature weapon for this class, which some of you might have already guessed, is the Idus Sword, which has a long reach and low weight. This weapon can give good results combined with Impaling Thrust. Also, pairing this weapon with a shield can get you good results too. My suggestion for your attack combo with this weapon is starting with a double heavy attack and then following up with a light, fast hit.

Can you get the gear from these two classes without picking them?

Short answer, yes. If you started the game with other classes and you're at a good level and wanna use the new gear from these two classes too, all you need to do is buy them from merchants early in the game:

    1. You can buy the Idus Knight gear set from a merchant near the Bellum Church in the north of Liurnia of the Lakes, each piece costs 1000 runes, except the armor which costs 1500 runes.
    2. You can pick up the Idus Sword from a corpse located northwest of that same merchant.
    3. You can buy the Heavy Knight gear set from a merchant in Weeping Peninsula at the same prices.
    4. You can also get the Hefty Scimitar from a merchant near Fort Haight for 2400 runes.

New bosses in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

In this update we get two new enemies, Knight Leontiel and Noble Broken Mask, who are gonna really challenge you and your skills.

    Knight Leontiel

You can find Knight Leontiel after beating Starscourge Radahn, in Caelid. This new enemy uses a special Great Sword and can dodge your attacks using a unique Ash of War called Muleta. He can also turn invisible and hit you with strong charged attacks after that.

Note: if Leyndell has already turned into the Ashen Capital, you won't have access to this Knight Leontiel anymore.

    Noble Broken Mask

You can find this second enemy in Leyndell, Royal Capital. To do this, you first need to go to the statue of Radagon and Marika and cast the Law of Regression spell there, which needs 37 Intelligence. Once you cast this spell, the Noble Broken Mask appears.

Important tips for beating Noble Broken Mask

This enemy gets stronger the more it gets hit, so you need to finish it off fast with quick attacks. Also, getting behind it makes things easier for you.

By beating this boss you get the Golden Order Flail, plus the Broken Gold Mask and Gold Tattoo armor set.

How to get the new weapons in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition?

Next in the Full Guide to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, I'm covering how to get the new weapons. These weapons are actually weakened versions of the weapons from Shadow of the Erdtree.

    1. Reverse-Bladed Sword: you can get this weapon from Twin Maiden Husk in Roundtable Hold for 1000 runes.
    2. Ritual Thrusting Shield: you can get this weapon from inside the Caelid colosseum near Taran.
    3. Reed Great Katana: you can pick up this weapon from a corpse on a high spot in Dragonbarrow, north of Fort Faroth. To get this weapon you need to use a double jump.

    Changing Torrent's appearance

In the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition update you can change your Torrent's appearance with three different skins:

    • Tree Sentinel Spectral Steed Attire: you can get this skin from a chest inside Stormveil Castle, after beating Godrick.
    • Silver of Caria Spectral Steed Attire: you can find this skin behind the Three Sisters stable in Caria Manor.
    • Funereal Night Spectral Steed Attire: you can find this skin in Altus Plateau, near the graveyard merchant.

Overall wrap-up of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

Overall this update gives players some really interesting and good content, from new weapons to new enemies that bring new challenges to the game. Also, the rewards for beating these enemies along with the new skins are a good reason to play it, and it can keep souls-like genre fans hooked for a while.
