In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the game takes a fresh approach by narrowing its focus on the story of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Unlike previous titles, this entry introduces a fully original, customizable character who acts as your avatar in the game’s unfolding events.
At the start of the game, you’re asked to name this character, who is initially referred to as the default 'Wanderer.' While your initial choice may feel exciting or meaningful, there are plenty of reasons you might want to change it later be it because of a plot reveal, a desire for something more fitting, or simply because your joke name didn’t age well (looking at you, John Musou!).
How to Rename the Wanderer in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Renaming the Wanderer isn’t an option right out of the gate. To unlock this feature, you’ll need to advance through the main story until Chapter 2. Here’s how it works:
1. Progress the Main Story in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Play through the Prologue and complete the first major stage, "Suppression of You Province." Shortly after, you’ll meet a key character named Yuanhua, who becomes your companion moving forward.
2. Access Story Scenes Through Inns or Camps
After Yuanhua joins your party, you gain access to a feature that allows you to revisit previous story scenes at any Inn or Camp. These scenes are organized in chronological order for your convenience.
3. Revisit the ‘Talking by the Fire’ Scene
Locate the interlude titled 'Talking by the Fire' from the Prologue chapter. When you rewatch this particular scene, the game treats it as if it’s happening for the first time. During this replay, you’ll be prompted to rename the Wanderer.
4. Make the Change Permanent
The new name you choose here will overwrite the old one, and you can repeat this process as many times as you wish. Renaming the Wanderer is now fully in your hands whenever inspiration strikes!
