EA Games is shutting down seven games today, marking another round of server closures. The company regularly discontinues older titles, particularly live-service games, annual sports releases with expired licenses, and mobile games. These shutdowns often happen every few months, with fans getting advance notice before the servers go dark.
7 EA Games Are Shutting Down Today
EA has already taken two games offline in 2025. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was shut down on January 16, limiting golf game options on modern platforms. Then, on January 24, EA pulled the plug on The Simpsons: Tapped Out, a once-popular mobile game. Many fans protested the decision, even starting petitions to keep the game online, but EA stuck to its schedule.

This weekend, a questionable adult imitation of Helldivers 2 made its debut on Steam, causing quite a stir. Titled "SEXDIVERS", the game blatantly copies the style and mechanics of Arrowhead's acclaimed live-service shooter, replacing its themes of democracy and freedom with 18+ "steamy scenes."Created by Octo Games, known for titles like Cumverse and Furry Survivals 18+, SEXDIVERS mimics the look of Helldivers 2 to an almost comical degree. From battling Terminid-like bugs to wearing armor strikingly similar to that of the Helldivers, the similarities are undeniable. However, instead of a thrilling gameplay experience, players get scenes described as "video calls from hotties" awkwardly displayed over the health bar. Think TikTok's Subway Surfer trend, but with a very adult twist.

Marvel Snap, the popular card battler, is providing generous compensation following its brief unavailability in the United States earlier this month. While all players worldwide are eligible for rewards, U.S.-based players receive exclusive bonuses as part of a special downtime package. The shutdown occurred after the U.S. Congress passed the "Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act," which specifically targeted ByteDance, the parent company of Marvel Snap's publisher, Nuverse. The legislation caused Marvel Snap to go offline for U.S. players on January 19, 2024. However, the ban has since been temporarily lifted, allowing the game to return to the U.S. market.

Atlus enthusiasts have enjoyed a remarkable surge of releases over the past year, with Metaphor: ReFantazio standing out as the crown jewel. As a fresh intellectual property from Atlus, the game has garnered immense critical acclaim, solidifying its position as a breakthrough title. Its success was underlined at The Game Awards 2024, where it clinched accolades such as Best RPG, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. Given this level of achievement, discussions among fans about a sequel’s potential trajectory have reached a fever pitch.
The game’s director, Katsura Hashino, has stated that there are no definitive plans to turn the title into a franchise, though he expressed hope for such a development in the future. Despite this, the groundwork laid by Metaphor: ReFantazio makes it an excellent candidate for expansion. Speculation abounds, with some fans believing a follow-up could serve as a spiritual successor rather than a direct continuation. However, the game’s finale contains unresolved narrative threads that hint strongly at a direct sequel.
