Combat & Utility Skills Efficiency Grinding

Skills that can most be leveled by doing it over and again, in a controlled environment or cheezy movement patterns.

Physical Stamina and Evasion

SkillCore FunctionFast Leveling MethodKey Perk to Watch For
AcrobaticsJump height, fall damage resistance.Linger on the Jump button while traveling. Rather fall a little non-lethal for a faster XP.Level 25 (Journeyman) unlocks the Dodge move (Block + Attack), which is crucial for melee builds.
AthleticsRunning, swimming, sprinting speed.Sprint in all directions or find a safe spot to walk continuously into a wall overnight.Integer Levels levels passively through movement and exploration.
BlockDamage mitigation when blocking.Continuously hold the block button instead in the Arena while facing your foes. Have a good Fatigue management in mind.75 (Expert) level turns on Shield Bashing.

Mastery of Armor and Repair

  • Armorer: Extremely Important for Higher Repair Magic Items.

    • Strategy: Buy Repair Hammers from the Imperial City Market District. Once you exit from a battle with dead enemies, pick up their stuff, repair it, then discard it. Re-repairing the damaged, low-value goods gives quickest early-game XP.

  • Hard Light Armor: Receive XP from damage incurred by that particular armor type.

    • Strategy: Have one piece of Heavy Armor (e.g., helmet) and the rest Light Armor (or vice versa). Battle with low-level enemies in the Arena to tank damage; this levels both of them at the same time (potions/Restoration sustain health).

Arcane Skills: Cost-Effective Spamming

Magic skills level in that successful casting was repeated. The goal here is to find the cheapest, most repeatable spell for each school.

Fast Leveling for ALL Magic Schools

  • Alteration: Shields, Water Walking, and Lock Opening are all affected.

    • Spell: Buy the cheapest Protect spell. Just spam-cast Protect on yourself while traveling or standing still.

  • Illusion: Charm, Light, and Invisibility spells.

    • Spell: Starlight (cheap light spell) can be spam-cast endlessly while exploring dungeons or the overworld for easy XP gains.

  • Conjuration: Summons creatures and equipment.

    • Spell: Summon Skeleton is the cheapest. Spam Summon Skeleton while just walking around. No combat involved.

  • Mysticism: Deals with Detect Life and Telekinesis spells.

    • Spell: Minor Life Detection grants significantly more experience per cast than the starter spell Clairvoyance, trading higher Magicka cost for faster leveling.

  • Destruction: Offensive elements affecting the spells. Very important, you need to hit the target in order to earn XP.

    • Strategy: Start with the Flare spell in the Arena. For risk-free XP, once you unlock spell crafting, create a Destruction spell that targets yourself (registers as a hit).

  • Restoration: Concerned with healing, fortification, and curing disease.

    • Spell: Minor Wounds (basic healing) fits the bill. Spam Minor Wounds as much as possible even if at full health. You gain experience just for casting.

Unique Skills: Alchemy, Security, and Commerce

Specific effective farming methods outside combat/magic touch.

The Bases of Alchemy and Mercantile Combination

  • Alchemy: Gaining experience only through the Mortar and Pestle crafting potions.

    • Strategy (Gold-Free): Pair Grapes (Skingrad Castle stables) with Tomatoes (nearby farm), make Restore Fatigue Potions, and wait for ingredients to respawn after 72 in-game hours.

  • Mercantile: Value of items sold dictates level progression.

    • Strategy: Sell high-value Restore Fatigue Potions made through Alchemy. Pro Tip: Use the Persuasion Mini-Game to raise disposition with the vendor, and then haggle to maximize sale value and XP gained.

To maximize sale value and accelerate the Mercantile skill, ensure you are dealing with the best vendors; locate the best merchants and their locations in the game.

Lockpicking and Stealth

  • Security: Picking locks.

    • Hastest Legal Farm: Do the quest at Dunbarrow Cave (south of Anvil). For 1000 gold, complete the Security Expert Upgrade for a home that comes with a Training Chest immediately re-locking, so that you can legitimately practice to unlimited, really fast.

  • Sneak: Successful sneaking around NPCs.

    • Strategy (Easiest Method): Break into a house at night with an NPC who is sleeping. Turn off the lights and walk, crawling slowly into the wall while remaining in sneak mode. The NPC is "aware" but isn't "catching" you; thus, skill increases very gradually without penalty.

Now should we move to learn what would be the ideal custom spell combination to create once you unlock the Mage's Guild, or would you want to talk about the optimal way to manage Attribute Bonuses during your Level Up ALL Skills in Oblivion Remastered journey?
