Borderlands 4 The September Update: What’s New This Time?

Published by M.D at September 26, 2025
Borderlands 4 September Update

Hey everyone, let's get straight into it! As of today, September 25th, a big new update for Borderlands 4 has landed. We're gonna dive into all the juicy details right here. Sure, you can always head over to Gearbox's official support page for the super exhaustive, line-by-line list of every single tweak.

But we're here to talk about the most important stuff you'll actually notice when you jump back into the chaos. We also won't spend too much time on the shift in weekly activities because, well, they're weekly. You get it.

So, what’s this patch all about? Let's break it down.

  1. The Biggest Additions in the Borderlands 4 September Update
  2. Squashing Bugs: A Ton of Fixes in the September Patch
  3. Balancing the Mayhem: Gameplay and Vault Hunter Tweaks
  4. What Does the Borderlands 4 September Update Mean for You?

The Biggest Additions in the Borderlands 4 September Update

Borderlands 4 September 2025 Update

Probably the biggest headline for this new update is the addition of an FOV slider for consoles. This has been a massively requested feature from the community. After some comments from Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford about "fairness" that left a lot of fans confused (especially since it was already a feature on PC in a cross-play game), Gearbox has finally implemented this change. Hopefully, you can take in quite a bit more of the action now! Just a heads-up, you might see a small dip in performance with the increased FOV, but it's a trade-off many are happy to make.

In another highly-requested public update, performance and stability should be getting upgrades across the board. Everything from hitching and crashing to framerate issues and even character animations are getting some tweaks. Gearbox has said they're continuing to look at further improvements. Creative Director Grim Timmons mentioned that he believes they've made significant improvements on the memory leak issue on console, but they're still investigating data to resolve issues on PC as well.

Also, the graphics preset can now be set to High or Very High when using auto-detect.

Squashing Bugs: A Ton of Fixes in the September Patch

A huge number of items in these patch notes are dedicated to specific bugs that have been plaguing players. It's a real cleanup crew in here:

  • Enemy AI: Various quirks and weird behaviors have been addressed.

  • Quest & Audio Triggers: Missing triggers that halted progress or left the world feeling silent are fixed.

  • UI & Visual Problems: Those annoying visual glitches? They're on the list.

  • Progression & Rewards: Stuck quests or missing rewards have been sorted out.

All of these are detailed in the full patch notes, but it's great to see such a wide-ranging effort to polish the experience.

Balancing the Mayhem: Gameplay and Vault Hunter Tweaks

Borderlands 4 new characters Update

The last big category of updates includes balance changes for general gameplay and then specific fixes for each Vault Hunter. Fixes to beam weapons and raptor packs, certain enemy movements in co-op have been improved for everyone, among other things. Also, certain gear types (think broad categories like all Tediore weapons) are getting consistent buffs; for example, all Tediore weapons are getting a +10% damage and magazine size boost.

Lastly, let's go over the specific Vault Hunter changes. There's not a whole lot here yet, as Timmons says there's a bigger balance update planned for next week, but here's what we have today.

Borderlands 4 September Update For Harlow:

She gets the most love this time. Her Flux Generator no longer heals enemies when the Potential Transference perk is activated. There are also changes to several passive interactions with her Cromer Accelerator action skill. For Aimé, the Primal Skill passive, and the Firewall action skill have all received updates to now work as intended. Plus, the Onslaught a rocket punch now hits more reliably on shielded enemies.

For the Others:

  • Vex: Her Grave Harvest augment won't trigger without having Incarnate activated anymore.

  • Blake: His Entombment passive now damages the Time Keeper as intended, and his Spirit Bomb passive now correctly counts as companion damage and will change its element as it should.

  • Rafa: Only one change, but a good one: his Blow Up passive will now stack properly when repeating action skills.
