Where the Madness Begins – Starting the Shivering Isles DLC
Before you even think about crafting Madness Armor, you’ll need access to the Shivering Isles. Once you're out of the sewer tutorial, head east of Bravil and find the iconic Strange Door in the Niben Bay. After a little unsettling chat with some unhinged NPCs, wait 24 in-game hours and jump through the portal.
Welcome to Sheogorath’s playground.
How to Get Madness Armor in Oblivion Remastered
Once you're inside the Isles, make your way to Crucible in New Sheoth. Find Cutter's Weapons—yeah, she's creepy, but she knows her craft. Chat with her and she’ll hand you a recipe list that tells you exactly how much Madness Ore you need for each piece of armor.
But where do you get this shiny dark stuff? Let’s dig in.
Where to Farm Madness Ore (Fastest Location)
The best spot to farm Madness Ore is the Blackroot Lair, located in the Low Road area of the Isles. The caves here are packed with Grummites, those weird frog-fish-thing enemies. Defeat them all—they occasionally drop Madness Ore.
Make sure to fully explore the lair. You’ll need at least 16 Madness Ores to craft the full set, so don’t hold back on the Grummite genocide.
Get The Madness Armor in Oblivion Remastered: Crafting Requirements
Once you’ve gathered enough ore, go back to Cutter’s workshop in Crucible and choose Forge Armor. Each piece has a specific ore cost:
Armor Piece | Madness Ores Required |
---|---|
Madness Boots | 2 |
Madness Cuirass | 5 |
Madness Gauntlets | 2 |
Madness Greaves | 3 |
Madness Helmet | 2 |
Madness Shield | 2 |
Craft what you want first—but trust us, that Cuirass is worth the grind.
