Team Fortress 2 Comic Concludes with Its Long-Awaited Final Issue

Published by M.D at December 22, 2024

The Team Fortress 2 comic series has finally received its long-overdue update, marking the end of a seven-year wait since the release of the last issue. This latest installment appears to serve as the finale to a beloved series that has captivated fans for years.

Issue 7, titled “The Days Have Worn Away,” is the first update to the digital comic since January 10, 2017. Based on a tweet from Valve writer Erik Wolpaw, it seems this marks the conclusion of the comic's storyline.

In a blog post announcing the release, the Team Fortress 2 team humorously reflects on the delay, stating:
"Did you know the construction of the Leaning Tower of Pisa was one hundred and ninety-nine years late? Literally everyone alive when construction started was dead by the time it finished." While perhaps an exaggerated comparison, it’s an apt metaphor for the comic’s extended production timeline.

Team Fortress 2 new update

For devoted Team Fortress 2 fans, this issue is a treat, bringing back all the familiar faces, including a newly married Soldier and even a rare appearance of the Spy without his mask. The issue also pays tribute to Rick May, the iconic voice of Soldier, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 79. The storyline wraps up a complex and long-running narrative, eagerly awaited by fans, though we’ll refrain from spoiling the details here.

The comic series has been an essential companion to the game, offering deeper insights into its vibrant cast of characters, from Miss Pauling to The Administrator. If you’ve yet to explore these stories, the entire series is well worth reading.

Valve continues to prove it still has creative sparks behind the scenes. Following the launch of the Steam Deck and the testing of its hero shooter Deadlock, this final comic installment shows that Valve remains dedicated to crafting compelling stories for its iconic games.
