Hidetaka Miyazaki Confirms Elden Ring 2 Isn’t in Development For Now

Published by M.D at December 4, 2024

FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently addressed the possibility of a sequel, stating that Elden Ring 2 is not currently being considered. However, he left the door open for a return to the franchise in the future.

Speaking at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia, as reported by IGN Japan and translated by Automaton, Miyazaki revealed that FromSoftware is actively working on several projects. While none of these are direct continuations of Elden Ring, the company remains open to exploring the universe further down the line.

“We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2 at the moment,” Miyazaki explained. He also mentioned that the upcoming projects span multiple genres, with some under his direct supervision.

FromSoftware’s Legacy and Future Projects

9 Elden Ring 2

FromSoftware is renowned for defining the Souls-like genre over the past 15 years. While their dark fantasy RPGs, including Dark Souls and Elden Ring, have cemented their reputation, they’ve also ventured into other themes with games like the mech-based Armored Core series, the gothic horror Bloodborne, and the mythology-inspired Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Despite Elden Ring's monumental success—selling over 25 million units and becoming FromSoftware's most critically acclaimed title—none of the currently announced projects appear to be tied to it. Fans are speculating about what’s next, with many hoping for a Dark Souls revival or a long-awaited Bloodborne sequel.

Elden Ring 2

In IGN's 10/10 review, they hailed Elden Ring as "a massive iteration on the Souls series, delivering challenging combat within an expansive open world that lets players choose their own path."

While Elden Ring 2 may not be on the immediate horizon, the possibility of revisiting its captivating universe keeps fans eagerly awaiting FromSoftware’s next move.

Interestingly, Elden Ring has only been treated to a single expansion pack, with no second installment in sight.
